Giving is Awesome…

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I’m honored to announce the winner of the Giving is Awesome portrait session…well winners .  There was no way I could choose between these two wonderful people.  I will be doing sessions for Avery and her family and for Dianne and her family.  Avery and Dianne don’t even know each other but have one thing in common.  They both have cancer.  Avery is a little girl about to turn 4 and Dianne is a single mom raising a family while going through chemotherapy.  I have a feeling I’m going to be the one who feels blessed after this project.  With permission I will come and share their photos on the blog after the sessions.  Thank you to everyone who sent in entries.

On a side note I will be out of the studio and visiting family January 1-12.  I will be back in the studio on January 13th.  Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy 2009.  Now a photo from one of my favorite peaceful places.

Manuela & Eric…

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

are getting married and this is one person who couldn’t be happier! I have know Manuela for about 2 1/2 years, she has been a bridesmaid in 3 weddings I have photographed. All I have to say is get ready to fall in love. These two are irresistable.

Before I share more engagement photos I want to revisit Manuela the bridesmaid.  One thing I noticed about every wedding Manuela was in was that she was always right there.  Always helping out, taking care of the bride, being a great friend.  So I thought to go along with this post I would share some images of her from Donna, Ramona, and Lavi’s wedding along with a letter I received from her about 2 years ago.  It was truly for me the highest of compliments.  I am beyond excited for Manuela and Eric.  To be a part of their wedding.  And to see Donna & Ben, Ramona & Darren and Lavi & John again in March 2009.  Since getting married all of the couples have had daughters in the order they got married.  Isn’t this what life’s all about!

Donna & Ben’s Wedding.

Ramona & Darren’s wedding.  Ramona is Manuela’s sister.

Lavi & John’s wedding.

The unbelievably gracious letter I received from Manuela in the fall of 2006.  It seriously brought tears to my eyes!

hi leigh…from the ever-present-bridesmaid:

hi leigh, it’s manuela. donna gave me the password to the wedding album and i was looking through it with tears in my eyes. then i went to your blog and looked at john & lavi’s pictures which are incredible and realized how many amazing moments are missed by the eye and what an amazing difference a wonderful photographer makes. then i went and looked at my sister & darren’s blog pictures with tears in my eyes once again. to say you’re talented would be an understatment. i’m sure each of the couples have thanked you over and over for the amazing moments you’ve captured for them but i wanted to do it also because you seriously make all the difference. i loved each and every wedding that you have shot. thank you. thank you. thank you.

i don’t know when i’ll be getting married but i’m putting you on notice now that you’ll be doing all of my pictures for it. there’ll be no backing out and i’m reserving you years in advance!

you rock, manuela

So I’m sure you can see why I am so excited.  Now the fabulous Manuela and Eric.  Who couldn’t quit smiling all day!

Giving is Awesome…

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

I’m so excited to be joining the Giving is Awesome photography giveaway.  You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season and in our poor economic times. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty. You know someone. I guarantee it.  I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $1000 worth, to be exact. The person who nominates the winner receives $500 towards photography of their own!

The rules:

*You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
*The nominee must reside in the San Diego area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork.  Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself.
*This contest is for portrait photography only. Not good towards wedding photography. I will announce the winner here on the blog on New Year’s Day.
*To nominate someone send an email to

Exciting news…

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I’m thrilled to announce that the fabulous blog The Weddingbee has started a professional blog, The Weddingbee Pro and I am going to be one of the pro bloggers!  This blog will be a place for wedding professionals to share what they are up to, the weddings they are working on and what is going on in the world of weddings.  It will be a great resource for wedding ideas.  How fun! So be sure and look for my blog posts over there as well.  And a great big thanks to Dana Grant for taking the photo of me to use in my bio.  Have a great day.

Congrats to Audrey & David…

and thank you Emily and Once Wed.  Audrey and David’s wedding was featured last week on one of my favorite blogs, Once Wed.  Not only is this a great blog for wedding ideas but also a great place to find a wedding gown.  I even find myself perusing the listings looking for gowns for shoots.  Go check it out.
